Preview of coming attractions

We’re about a month away from embarking on a kitchen / bath renovation in our 100-year-old triple-decker.

I prepared these drawings last November for initial discussions with our contractor. Things have evolved a bit since then as we honed in on final design for custom millwork (working with Kerf Design in Seattle) and selection of appliances, fixtures, fittings, and finishes. Though I do this stuff for a living, it’s incredible how much harder it is when it’s for oneself. Exponentially more second-guessing and hand-wringing. Just as every doctor should experience what it’s like to be a patient, I suppose every architect should experience what it’s like to be a client.

Future posts will include updated drawings, photographs of finish / material samples, and once we pack up in preparation for demolition, the “before” half of what will eventually be before-and-after photos. During construction, we’ll plan on posting around once a week to show progress. Wish us luck.
