MassMoCA II – Art

Perhaps the single best reason to visit MassMOCA is the long-term (until 2033!) Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective exhibit, perhaps an antidote to Walter Benjamin’s lament about the work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction and Adorno’s subsequent fuss about reification – LeWitt’s work exists first as a set of directions, which artists then use to generate the work. Those who appreciate geometry, order, and precision should make the trip.

Another long-term (but seasonal) exhibit is Anselm Kiefer, whose paintings generally evoke industrial landscapes, though in this case, seascapes. On view through 2025 but currently closed for the winter.

The Clifford Ross: Landscape Seen & Imagined exhibit is no longer on view, but MassMoCA maintains a set of photographs that are worth perusing.
